Marketing That Works: How Entrepreneurial Marketing Can Add Sustainable Value to Any Sized Company

Million Dollar Women: The Essential Guide to Taking Your Business Further, Faster

by Julia Pimsleur

The education entrepreneur Heather Hiles is one of the only women profiled in these pages who went to business school, because I want to show that it's possible to be a successful entrepreneur without traditional training. So I was relieved when Heather told me that other than learning how to read financial statements, she's figured out much of what she's needed as a CEO from being out in the world. After twenty-one years in the education and workforce development arenas, she saw a void: the e-portfolio software available was insufficient for learners' needs. So she set about building RippleSend (now Pathbrite), a SaaS product that actually improves educational outcomes by letting any student create his or her own multimedia portfolio. Not only is Heather the only woman in the room--she's often the only African American.
